Russia cancels all coronavirus restrictions, including mask mandate

MOSCOW, Jul 1 (PRIME) -- The Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare Oversight has cancelled all the restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic, including a mask mandate and a ban for the catering industry to work at night, the service said in a statement on Friday.

“Thanks to a continuous decrease of intensity of the epidemiologic process, the service suspends the old restrictions, including the mask mandate, the ban for public catering companies to work overnight, and other measures,” the service said.

The weekly new coronavirus cases plummeted by 98.5% from the highest levels of February, and is at the lowest level since the beginning of the pandemic. The chances for new cases of the Omicron variant skyrocketing in the summer are very slim, and 93% of all coronavirus cases in Russia are light or asymptomatic, the service said.

Still, the service may return the restrictions if the COVID-19 situation worsens.
